FAQ
What is electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. During session, a probe slightly smaller than the size of the hair is inserted into the follicle, and a small amount of current is applied. The energy used to destroy the blood supply to a hair follicle with heat and/or physiochemical reaction. This destroys the blood supply to that hair and the germinating cells that reproduce new hair.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Electrolysis can be formed on any part of the body and is suitable for people of all skin and hair types.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Electrolysis is a progressive treatment that takes several sessions due to different hair growth cycles to achieve permanent results. The length of treatment varies among clients depending on the type of hair, previous hair removal, and several other factors. it takes a series of treatments as the hair grows in cycles and not all the hair is currently visible. Most clients can expect the treatment to take 12 to 24 individual sessions starting with more frequent appointments and gradually spaced out as the hair is reduced.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Electrolysis can treat all hair colors, skin tones, and hair textures. However if you have a cochlear implant, pacemaker, hepatitis, defibrillator, cancer, heart issues, or are currently pregnant, or breast feeding, I am unable to offer electrolysis services.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST SESSION?
The first appointment is a consultation. During this, time I will explain what electrolysis is, how it works, and determine if you are a good candidate. Additionally, 15 minutes of treatment time is included. I will examine the desired area to be treated. The hairs in the area for treatment need to be long enough for me to be able to grab with the tweezers. You also need to be sure you are well hydrated prior to your appointment.
IS IT REALLY PERMANENT?
Yes! Electrolysis is the ONLY method of permeant hair removal approved by the FDA and AMA. Electrolysis works by treating each follicle with energy which then destroys hair growth nutrients. Unlike laser which is permanent hair reduction and works by using hairs pigment. Laser only works on certain hair color. Electrolysis can be used on any hair color, skin tone, and location.
WILL IT HURT?
The current that is applied is often described as a mild sensation or pinch with some areas being more sensitive than others. Everyone has a different pain tolerance and most clients find it is worth a slight discomfort to be hair free. Some clients prefer to take over-the-counter pain reliever prior to the treatment or obtain a topical anesthetic cream to numb the area.
IS IT SAFE?
Electrolysis is a highly safe and precise hair removal method. Each appointment uses a brand-new, sterile disposable probe, and all medical-grade tweezers are sterilized in a hospital-grade sterilizer after every client, following CDC guidelines for infection control. All treatment surfaces are thoroughly sanitized before and after each session to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and client safety.
